  • PUERTO PENASCO (ROCKY POINT) NOW

    Puerto Peñasco NOW LLC

    Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, Mexico

    Dear Puerto Peñasco Home Owner

We are writing this letter today to ask for your sponsorship to a “VISIT PUERTO PEÑASCO NOW” promotion campaign aimed at bringing more tourists that rent to Puerto Peñasco, Sonora Mexico.

As everyone is all too aware, especially our local home owners and business people, the reputation of the safety and serenity of Puerto Peñasco has been doubted, questioned, and scrutinized in the U.S. media over and over again, creating an unnecessary hysteria and fear for visitors. For a city that has perfect weather year-round, Rocky Point has been through an enormous storm. For a city that prides itself on its friendliness, peace, safety, and a laid back attitude, this storm has all but washed away the spirit of the city. Not only has it put fear into new visitors, but it has kept away those of you who have visited for 20 years or more.

Sometimes it takes a sleeping giant to quash the beast, and there is where Puerto Peñasco NOW comes into the spotlight, launching their grass roots “Visit Puerto Peñasco NOW” campaign. This personal campaign is aimed at bringing you back to the city you love to visit. It is also designed to attract new tourism as well as educate and inform the general public that Peñasco hasn’t changed…the only thing that has changed is what the media decides to say about us on any given day.

Puerto Peñasco NOW LLC is a new company, an evolution of Puerto Peñasco NOW; that is positioned to help promote this resort destination and bring more visitors and renters to Puerto Penasco through our promotion campaign “VISIT Puerto Peñasco NOW”.  To read more about the websites, video program and other tools that we have to contribute to this promotion go to: www.puertopenasconow.com/promotion/promotion.html

We are asking for your sponsorship to a promotion campaign aimed at bringing more tourists that rent to Puerto Peñasco, Sonora Mexico. If you are ready to sponsor without reading more go to: www.PuertoPenascoNow.com/sponsor/sponsor.html if not please read on……

The promotion program will include turning on a new internet window into Puerto Penasco that will compete with other resort communities attracting more visitors here.  A grass roots promotion campaign will be another key element of bringing more visitors back from our traditional locations like southern Arizona.  Some of the campaign components will include updating the “World comes to Puerto Peñasco” DVD, adding brochures, the Rocky Point Times and sending or hand delivering packages of information to key spots to gain the attention this city deserves.  Co-Promotion with Sedona Chamber and TV Station and media massive outreach.  We will also use professional scripted messages to deal with the issues that have kept people away.

We would like your input as we refine this marketing plan, please have a look at the details of the promotion plan, how our Puerto Penasco Now programs can help with this plan, to complete our full survey go to www.penascoportal.com/promotion-survey or if your time is limited and you want to give your input, please tell us “What is the main point of Puerto Penasco you want to be promoted and any suggestions you have about what kind of videos and material you would like to see in our programming, or any other specific suggestion?

    Home Owner Sponsorship:

We are targeting this promotion campaign to bring the biggest benefits to you the Puerto Peñasco home owner.  We are graciously asking you to sponsor this program with donations ranging from $50 to $250 each depending on the direct benefit you will receive or any amount you are comfortable.

Home owners that rent will receive the most direct benefits from this promotion campaign as the increase in visitors will need a place to stay and we work to bring the direct benefit to those that contribute where ever possible.

Those of you who live full time in your residence or do not rent them will receive indirect benefits through increased property value as new visitors generally means more home / condo buyers. To properly fund this program our suggested sponsorship is:

Platinum – Multiple home / condo owners that rent - $250

Gold -Single home / condo owner that rent - $150

Silver - Mul tiple home / condo owners - $100

    Bronze - Single home / condo owner - $50

You can contribute whatever you are comfortable with, the above are just guidelines.

To sponsor this program go to www.PuertoPenascoNow.com/sponsor/sponsor.html

Puerto Peñasco NOW LLC will communicate the details of the promotion campaign as it unfolds and will report on results (income, plans, costs and results) as requested. Feedback though email is welcome.

  • Rocky Point Mexico travel

    A perspective on Mexico travel

Sometimes we all need to be reminded to put things in perspective. It happens all the time, something may seem earth shattering in the moment it is occurring and when we have the ability to  stop and look back we think well…maybe we over reacted.

Perhaps that's what is happening right now when it comes to Mexico travel and tourism.

Puerto Penasco Mexico is a beautiful destination 60 miles south of the Arizona border. A quiet little beach town with a population over 50,000(see Wikipedia info) it has had little violent crime and offers beachside relaxation and fishing on the beautiful Sea of Cortez.

It is not close to Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, which has a population exceeding 22 million people, making it the largest metropolitan area in the western hemisphere and the second largest in the world by population according to the United Nations and other organizations.

In fact Puerto Penasco is only 215 miles from Phoenix, Arizona the 5th largest city in the United States. Phoenix is 1,998 miles from Wahington DC the capital of the United States and Puerto Penasco is less than 2000 miles from the capital Mexico City. This quiet little seaport town is no closer to the capital of their state capital than Phoenix is to Washington D.C.

Think about it if something happens in Washington DC with violence or murders or swine flu, do we close the borders of the United States? It is our capital, just like Mexico City is Mexico’s capital. When the sniper attacks occurred  in the DC suburban area did we close the United States down and send warnings not to visit the US? Certainly no one would have thought to announce any warnings about Phoenix with issues happening in DC? Do other countries close their borders from the US and cancel their trips to all of the United States when something concerning happens in our capital?

Or let us use a smaller more comparable town to Puerto Penasco, Mexico. For this example, how about Show Low Arizona, a beautiful mountain town with some of the largest Ponderosa Pines in the world and great skiing. Definitely smaller population then Puerto Penasco but a unique tourist destination similar to Rocky Point. So, if we hear about something happening in Show Low will we avoid the entire US or Arizona? For that matter will we cancel our trips to Show Low? Of course not that sounds ridiculous.Well, then why are we cancelling our beach vacations to Mexico?

In March 2009 a shoot out occurred in the Wal-Mart parking lot in  Show Low, Arizona ( see article on murders) . The murders happened right around spring break time and Show Low Arizona with its rugged high elevation and beautiful mountains is a Spring Break skiing destination…why didn’t universities issue warning about going to Show Low?

Because sometimes bad things happen no matter where you are at in the world.  People get the flu, a horrific shoot out happens at a Wal Mart in a small town and someone shoots a man on the freeway in Phoenix. Horrible bad things happen in small and large towns every day. Do we stop traveling and stay at home? Of course not. Let’s get some reality.

Perhaps, before you cancel your trips to Mexico, you should understand where you are going and what happens in your own neighborhood and put things in perspective. Think about the 36,000 cases of flu last year in the United States.

As of today unlike Phoenix, Arizona there has not been one report of H1N1 previously known as swine flu in the town of Puerto Penasco or the state of Sonora.

What does this mean to you?

Plan a weekend road trip to Rocky Point. Go to a laid back place where you can have lunch with the sound of the waves and sit on a blanket under clear skies with millions of stars. Go have some fun in the sun without any smog and clear air.

Go jet skiing, parasailing, swimming, beachcombing have some margaritas and eat a few yummy tacos. Just returning from a long weekend in Puerto Penasco, the weather was fantastic and the water is at a perfect temperature. The business owners are waiting for you ready to ensure you have a great vacation and hoping tourism picks up, I guarantee you will get spectacular service!

The weather is beautiful, wish you were here!

A little tired of reading about swine flu or the H1N1?
Your not alone. Today, there are zero cases of H1N1 in Puerto Penasco ( Rocky Point) , Sonora Mexico and 131 cases in Arizona, and a total of 1,639  in the United States.
Perhaps we should warn all the Americans living in Puerto Penasco , the retiree's and the Mexican Nationals to avoid the United States and stay at the beach. Illinois is leading the nation in H1N1 cases with a startling 392 and Wisconsin with 240 cases of swine flu. Do they border Mexico? not the last time I checked my geography. Click here for a full map of the cases of H1N1.
So, what does that mean to you? Budget vacations galore. Take advantage of the incredible specials available in hopes of bringing back the visitors. The great get away deals that fit your budget  and allow you to leave town without spending a lot of money.  Go to the beach this weekend and have a luxury time without the crowds.
Let's put our toes in the sand, relax under a palapa and get a massage on the beach while the seagulls talk to each other in the background and the lap of the warm blue water hits the surf.
Read a good book, go kayaking or just have a few margarita's at a swim up pool bar. It's definately not over crowded right now due to all the misconceptions of  Mexico so go enjoy your self get out of the city and enyoy the beautiful weather on the Sea of Cortez.
Not sure what is going on in Puerto Penasco this weekend? Click here for a calendar of events.
Remember starting June 1, 2009, you must have a passport.

  • Holland Cruise Ship Home Port to Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point)

(SANEPR.com) April 1, 2009 -- The Holland America shipping company revealed that in three years, with the construction of a Cruise Ship Home Port, Puerto Penasco will be taking another step to become a world-class tourist destination.

Holland America is planning to have one cruise ship a week on the Sea of Cortez route as of 2011, stated Simon Douwes, Planning and Scheduling Director, who recently confirmed that at the latest in three years, Puerto Penasco will become the site for the arrival and departure of cruise ships.
Plans are to make between 50 and 60 trips in the “World's Aquarium”, departing from Puerto Penasco to Guaymas, Loreto, La Paz and Topolobampo, and then, returning to the port of departure.
He stated that the Sea of Cortez route is excellent for the company, because in only seven days they can go to six Mexican ports, which will provide a myriad of attractions.
On the other hand, the coordinator of the Commission for the Development of Tourist of the State Government, Epifanio Salido Pavlovich, explained that initially there will be a 14 day route that will depart from San Diego, California, and will travel to Puerto Penasco; then Guaymas, and the tour will conclude in the port of embarkation.
Representatives of Holland America and Carnival Corporation recently visited the area of Sandy Beach, where they intend to locate the cruise ship terminal in Puerto Penasco.
An assessment on the technic al feasibility of building the wharf in this area of Rocky Point, Mexico was conducted with good results. Possible attractions in that area that could be provided to cruise ship customers were analyzed within the plans to set-up the Home Port. Some of these attractions are the Visitor Center of the “El Pinacate” Biosphere Reserve which is another option that can be provided to nautical tourists.
Government sources said that the Home Port project in Puerto Penasco is looking for the appropriate conditions to remain as the Sea of Cortez cruise ship route, while at the same time duly caring for the environment and furthering a sustainable activity through ecological balance.
On October 16, the first tourist cruise ship owned by Holland America arrived in Guaymas, Sonora, while the second one arrived on November 15. in both cases, 1,200 tourists enjoyed the region's attractions.
A “home port” is a port of arrival, or rather, the site where cruises begin and end. It is something Mexico had never had up to now. This benefit will also include Puerto Penasco once the construction of the Home Port is completed a few kilometers from the US border.
The Government of Sonora, the Florida and Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), and the Coordination General of Ports and Merchant Marine, a body belonging to the Department of Communications and Transportation (SCT) entered into negotiations to make this project come true.

  • RE/MAX Rocky Point, Susie Flinn's Easter and Semana Santa newsletter

    Buenas Dias.

Rocky Point has been beautiful, however a bit breezier than I believe the norm.  I have an idea this will be our last cool front coming in from the northwest.  I'll be awaiting to see the temperture in the 80's and 90's.  The nights are still a bit cool.

We are ready for a busy Easter and Semana Santa weekend.  The condo resorts are full to capacity.  We all welcome our visitors.

Mexico is getting a lot of bad press and Rocky Point is being lumped into this bad press when we're NOT part of it.  Rocky Point is a small fishing village by the sea with beautiful white sandy beaches and warm blue water for everyone to enjoy.  I'm writing to inform you that Rocky Point is SAFE, it is family friendly and it is a wonderful vacation location, 2nd home opportunity, and has investment possibilities that come along once in a lifetime.
My husband and I have owned a home in Rocky Point for over 20 years.  We have travelled back and forth to Phoenix, Las Vegas and San Francisco over and over again.  I have travelled alone and it is a safe drive with a freshly paved highway.  We have celebrated holidays, birthdays and vacations with friends and family have made some of our best memories here on the white sandy beach of Rocky Point.
The press is unfair!  Please pass this information on to your family and friends.  You may call me and/or give my number 602 334 4359 to anyone wanting to talk about Rocky Point.  I am committed to the continued development of our safe fishing village by the sea

Come to Rocky Point and enjoy our beautiful spring weather and see for yourself.

Last weekend I played in the Cholla Bay Horse Shoe tourney.  Did I have fun.  I played fairly well for a beginner.  I'll need to practice for next year.

    The upcoming events for April are;

    • Saturday, April 11, 2009 - One Club Open inCholla Bay at JJ’s cantina
    • Friday, April 17 – 19 – Cholla Bay Sportsman Club fishing derby
    • Friday, April 17 – 18 – Las Palomas Golf and Beach resort Triathlon
    • Saturday, April 18 – Playa Bonita Resort, Beach Volley Tourney

    • Saturday, April 25th Cholla Bay, Xochitl’s café Chile Class
    • Thursday, April 30th – Dia del Nino – celebration of the children

Let Your Purpose Drive Your Purchase

    REAL ESTATE IN PUERTO PEÑASCO
Let Your Purpose Drive Your Purchase!
    by Gretchen Ellinger

Clearly defining the purpose of your Puerto Peñasco property purchase will help to determine which types of properties, and even which neighborhoods, to consider. Some people get lucky; they fall in love with a property, buy it, and later find that it exactly meets their needs. Many others “wish they had” just known, thought or planned prior to making a purchase.

Investing? The property purchased strictly as an investment must be priced low enough, have great terms of purchase, or have ongoing demonstrated revenue value, such as rental history, and have potential for significant appreciation, in order to make sense from the standpoint of investment. Your investment strategy must be realistically measured in terms of the potential gain in order to determine whether a proposed property is the right purchase.

Personal enjoyment? If you don’t plan to sell, and have no expectation of the property other than to use and enjoy it, shopping is easier. Establish your price range, pick your favorite neighborhood, and when you find the right property, go ahead—fall in love! This kind of a purchase doesn’t have to make sense!

A bit of both? You might want an investment property that you can enjoy yourself from time to time. Properties with good rental potential, bought at great prices, work well for this purpose. Rental income helps to offset the cost, and eventually appreciation validates the investment value. Or you may be someone who is finally in a position to fulfill your dream of living here, but you want to earn a little in order to help it work. Your purchase may be a bit more challenging; depending upon your business plan, you may need a home that doubles as a business place, a business place with living quarters, or you may need both residential and commercial properties! You will probably need to go back to clearly defining, this time your business plan, so that you know which types of properties in which areas you will want to consider.

Regardless of the type of property purchase you are considering, opportunities abound! Let your purpose drive your purchase, and buy now while Puerto Peñasco property prices are at historic lows!
